Jurerê Beach PDF Print E-mail

The green colored sea, with mild temperature and calm waves make Jurerê a typical beach of the North of the Island. This sandy beach has an extension of a bit more than 3 Km, making it a great place for a nice walk. It begins at Ponta de Canajurê and extends itself until the Ponta Grossa, where the eighteen hundred century Forte de São José de Ponta Grossa is located.

In the water, the sailing ships and motor boats from the Iate Clube de Santa Catarina give a sophisticated look to the beach. On the ground, the neighborhood is divided in two portions, with distinct characteristics. On the left side is Jurerê Internacional. Totally planned, it counts with parks, supermarkets, an outdoor shopping center, bars, refined restaurants, and wide parking lots for the ones who intend to spend just a day at the beach. This characteristics attracted people interested in comfort and quality of life, transforming this place in a paradise of mansions.

On the right side is the part known as Jurerê Tradicional. There you can find the oldest residents of the neighborhood, with their "manezinho" way and restaurants with typical culinary. In this part is where the Iate Clube de Santa Catarina is located, accessing the beach through a pier.

The name Jurerê came from the "tupi-guarani" word Y-Jurerê Mirim, meaning "little mouth of the river". This "little mouth of the river" that the native indians referred is the narrow canal that separates the Island of Santa Catarina from the Continent, nowadays united by the famous Ponte Hercílio Luz.
